Science Fair

Supplies are all listed under each experiment

Station 1: Dry Erase Floating Ink Experiment
       

Supplies:
A glass plate or bowl
Dry erase markers (various colours)
Water

Instructions
Draw simple shapes on the glass (hearts, stick figures)
Pour water onto the plate very slowly in order to lift up the drawing
Swirl the water around to make the picture dance and move


Station 2: Bubble Machine

Supplies

Paper cup
Straws
Pencils
Dish soap
Water
Tape
Food colouring  

Instructions

Poke hole with a pencil in your paper cup, about 1 inch from the bottom
Stick the straw through the hole and push forward, but don’t let it touch the other side. Have the bendy potion on the outside of the cup facing up
Use masking or duct tape to secure the straw on the outside, make sure you’ve plugged any cracks so the straw doesn’t leak
Pour dish soap in the cup, enough to cover the straw
Add 2 tablespoons of water
Add a few drops of food colouring for coloured bubbles
Gently blow through the straw and watch the bubbles overflow

Station 3: Dancing Rice

Supplies

Jar/ clear cups
Food colouring
Water
Baking soda
Uncooked rice
White vinegar

Instructions

Fill a clear Jar 3/4 of the way with water. Add food colouring
Add in 1 TBS of baking soda and stir. Mix completely
1/4 cup of uncooked rice
Add in 1-2 TBS of white vinegar
***if reaction doesn’t happen add more vinegar***

Station 4: Magic pepper and soap experiment

Supplies

Pepper
Plates
Water
Food colouring
Dish soap

 Instructions

Pour some water onto a plate. You want it to cover a fairly large part of the plate. Colouring the water blue is optional but sometimes make the reaction easier to see
Sprinkle some pepper onto the surface of the water
Dip your finger into the dish soap
Place your finger in the centre of the plate into the water
Watch as the pepper quickly scatters to the edges of the water on the plate


Station 5: Skittles experiment (can be done with jelly beans)

Supplies

Plate
Skittles
Warm water
   

Instructions

Line the skittles on a plate
Add warm water to the middle of the plate
Watch the rainbow appear

Station 6: Blow up a balloon

Supplies

Balloon
Vinegar
Baking soda
Funnel Dry empty bottle (like water bottle)

Instructions

Add 2 or 3 teaspoons of baking soda to the unfilled balloon
Thoroughly rinse and dry the funnel
Add 2 or 3 teaspoons of baking soda to the unfilled balloon
Thoroughly rinse and dry the funnel
Pour 2 or 3 teaspoons of vinegar in the water bottle using funnel
Attach the balloon to the top of the water bottle be careful not to let any of the baking soda slip in until you are ready
Quickly tip the baking soda so it mixes with the vinegar Watch as your balloon blows up



Station 7: Leak proof bag experiment

Supplies

Zip-block bags
Sharp pencils
Water

Instructions

Fill the zip-block with water
Gently push pencils through the bag until it pierces both sides
And watch no leaks!


Station 8: Oil and Water experiment

Supplies

Vegetable oil
Food colouring
Medicine droppers
Water
Cups

Instructions

Put water in several cups and add food colouring then stir to combine
Place a medicine dropper in each coloured glass of water
Fill a cup about half way with oil
Now explore what happens when you drop the water mixture in with the oil
