Melted Crayon Pumpkin

What you need for this craft:

  • Pumpkin (mini or large if you wish)
  • Crayons
  • Glue gun (or tacky glue)
  • Hair dryer

The whole month of October is festive, starting with Thanksgiving and ending with Halloween. Why not make a craft that can last all month long.

There are a lot of mini pumpkins available at the grocery store during fall. If you can't find white ones (as indicated in the method below) you can always paint an orange one white before getting started on the crayon melting.

How to create:

  • Step 1: Remove dirt by washing your pumpkin with cold water & dry completely.
  • Step 2: Cut crayons in half & unwrap top pointed portion of the crayon.
  • Step 3: Glue crayons pointing outward & around the handle of the pumpkin.
  • Step 4: Let glue dry completely & then apply heat.

NOTES:

Line work area with paper towel or newspaper–these crayons will splatter all over your table!

When using the blow dryer, it is best to use low heat & it took about 30 seconds to 1 minute for each crayon to melt completely. Angling the blow dryer different ways lets the paint splatter all over your pumpkin!

This project can be messy, so you could consider this project on a table outside. As well, due to the glue gun and hair dryer, adult supervision is necessary.
